Showing can
is very rewarding, but also very
time consuming. It takes W-O-R-K. You must
first acquire the best animal that you can as
far as conformation is concerned. Then they
must be trained to act accordingly in the show
classes. All this is then followed by clipping
and grooming. Finally it is your turn. This
information is focused more around what you will
need to wear and take with you to the show.
YOUR ATTIRE
1. Back clip to avoid the need of
safety pins. This is used to hold your numbers
on your back.
They are not necessary, but are very handy. They
come from
Prime Design Tack
2. You will need to wear a long sleeve shirt.
3. Men will need to wear a jacket or vest. The
color that you choose to wear should blend but
not
match the exact color of your donkey. You
want to create a contrast. This will accentuate
your donkey as opposed to yourself. The
color you choose should create a pleasant and
professional look. With black donkeys you
may want to wear a dark navy as opposed to
black. Men may also want to wear a tie.
4. You will need boots
5. Gloves (leather)
6. Hats are required. In the summer most of
the men and women wear white or off white.
Some wear black. The winter hats are made
of a plush fabric.
7. Belts with western buckles are worn by most
of the competitors.
Looking the part lets the judge know that you
have done your homework. He or she may also
assume that you have done your homework in
looking for just the right animal.
One place that I like to shop is
Rod's Western Wear.
ANIMAL'S ATTIRE
Your
donkey will need a nice halter. Leather or
biothane are acceptable. Most are using biothane
because it is easier to maintain. You will also
need to have a lead line with a chain. This,
too,
should be either leather or biothane. It is
much nicer looking if the halter and lead chain
match.
I truly prefer the halters made by Jerry Kaplan.

DONKEY SHOW NECESSITIES
You will want to download the attached
file. I always like to give credit to those who
create materials that are helpful. This came
from
Wolfheart Ranch. In case it does not come
up you may also download it this way.
